The fans of the New York Islanders, one of the NHL’s yearly bottom of the standings team, fell in love with interim head coach Jack Capuano. The Isles, played a much-improved second half of the season going 26-29-10.

As a result, the Islanders have removed the interim tag and have made Capuano their permanent coach.

Capuano was selected as the interim coach from the team’s American Hockey League affiliate in Bridgeport, Connecticut on November 15 when Scott Gordon was given a pink slip in the middle of a 10-game losing streak which put the team out of the playoffs for yet, another season.
