The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenseman Brad Stuart from the Detroit Red Wings for Andrew Murray, a forward and a conditional 2014 draft pick.

This will be Stuart’s second stint with the Sharks, as he was drafted by the organization back in the late 1990′s.

Stuart has also played for Boston, Calgary and the Kings.

Stuart is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The Sharks management feel that they can sign him to a new contract this month.

Wisniewski’s return; young kids Johansen, Moore help Jackets get first win

The Columbus Blue Jackets three weeks of hell, in the words of head coach Scott Arniel ended Tuesday night with a 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

The Jackets outplayed the veteran Wings and made them chase the puck all night which resulted in the home team getting seven power plays.

It was a night of firsts for Columbus.

James Wisniewski made his Blue Jackets debut after serving an eight-game suspension; rookie Ryan Johansen scored his first NHL goal and added an assist; rookie John Moore scored his first NHL goal and Derek MacKenzie scored his first goal of the year into an empty net.

Columbus came into the game as the only winless team in the league at 0-7-1 with 1 point, the worst start in team history.

There were 15,100 in attendance at Nationwide Arena. It was a welcome sight considering there had been several crowds this year under 10,000.

The addition of Wisniewski, a Michigan native from the Detroit area, was obvious on the defensive end. He played 27 minutes, 21 seconds and saw his first action since the preseason. The veteran free-agent signee from this past off-season was suspended for a hit to the head of Minnesota forward Cal Clutterbuck in an exhibition game on September 23.

Also getting into the scoring column was R.J. Umberger who had a goal and an assist.

GAME NOTES:

* With the win last night, the CBJ snapped an eight-game winless skid of 0-7-1. It had been the deepest the team had gone into the season without a win.

* Columbus center Ryan Johansen and defenseman John Moore each scored their first NHL goals in the game. It is the first time in team history the Blue Jackets have had two players score their first NHL goal in the same game. (Information courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau).

* Columbus has scored a power play goal in five straight games (5-of-25) after opening the season 0-for-20 with the man advantage the first four games. The club record for consecutive games with a power play goal is eight, set October 10-November 12, 2002.

* Columbus is now 18-37-10 all-time against Detroit, including an 11-15-7 record at Nationwide Arena.

* Red Wings starting goaltender Jimmy Howard was absent from the team for the birth of his first child.
