Former OSU coach Tressel might take over Colts job

Jim Tressel ( photo)

There is a chance that all Ohio State Buckeyes fans might see former head football coach Jim Tressel leading the Indianapolis Colts in 2012.

Reports out of Indianapolis and around the NFL say that Tressel, has already interviewed for the job with owner Jim Irsay. The Baldwin-Wallace grad spent the 2011 season as a game day consultant for the Colts.

Tressel is a top-notch coach, eventhough his only experience is in the college ranks.

His only baggage is that he was ousted due to NCAA rules violations and allowing otherwise ineligible players play when knowing of their misdeeds.

There are other candidates for the Indianapolis job: Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Morhinweg and former Vikings head coach Brad Childress.

The fans and media of the Cleveland Browns have said all along that the team needs an offensive coordinator above all else.

It was evident during several games this year that the team was scrambling around to calls plays at the last minute and got plays into the huddle late.

Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said recently that he would begin a search for an offensive coordinator and is willing to forgo all play calling and just oversee the entire team as most NFL coach’s do. But only if he gets the right guy.

Although Shurmur offered no names, there are a couple of people he could hire due to past experiences. Brad Childress, whom Shurmur worked with on Andy Reid’s staff in Philadelphia and Mike Sherman, a former assistant with Mike Holmgren with Green Bay.

Minnesota elevates Frazier from interim to permanent head coach

Leslie Frazier Vikings coach (NFL)

The Minnesota Vikings players have said all along that they wanted Leslie Frazier to continue as their head coach.

Owner Zigy Wilf must’ve been listening because he did exactly what the players had suggested.

Earlier in the week, the Vikings management decided to remove the interim tag and keep Frazier, who was the defensive coordinator, and make him the head coach.

Frazier says that he’ll look over the roster, staff, and schemes to see where improvement is needed to get the Vikings back in the playoffs.

He did indicate that he will not ask 41-year-old Brett Favre back under any condition.

Frazier was selected by Wilf on November 22 to replace the controversial Brad Childress who was fired. The Vikings went 3-3 under him after a 3-7 start. The players were more relaxed as opposed to being uptight under Childress who belittled them in the press at times.

3-7 record gets Brad Childress fired

Brad Childress wanted to ride Brett Favre’s arm and experience to the Super Bowl. Instead, he rode the quarteback’s poor play to the unemployment line.

Following a season where he got a contract extension and was one win from the Super Bowl, Brad Childress was fired earlier this week by the Minnesota Vikings. The firing ends a very tumultuous run with the team which has been plagued with player unrest, livid fans, bad trades and an angry owner who was tiring of his abrupt decisions.

Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, who has interviewed seven times to become an NFL head coach at various places, will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Owner Zygi Wilf, stormed out of the locker roon after Sunday’s 31-3 home loss to the Green Bay Packers, had sees enough.

Childress, is the second NFL coach to be fired this season after Dallas Got rid of Wade Phillips.

Childress was in his fifth season as the Packers coach. The 31-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers, the most-lopsided home defeat, dropped his home record to 40-37, including 1-2 in the playoffs.
