COLUMBUS, O. – The Columbus Blue Jackets matched the physical style of the Boston Bruins. But Boston showed how a championship caliber team can separate itself in a close game and outplayed Columbus in the third period to win 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Blue Jackets, new to the NHL’s Eastern Conference, are 0-2 at home. Both of their wins have come on the road.

The game-winning goal was scored by Loui Eriksson, his first with the Bruins.

Eriksson, acquired last summer in the big trade that sent Tyler Seguin to Dallas, scored 150 goals for the Stars. He started the season scoreless in three games for the Bruins.

Starring for the Blue Jackets were Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and Defenseman Jack Johnson. Johnson scored on a first-period power play.

Bobrovsky, last season’s Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL’s top goalie, stopped 33 shots.

BOSTON GAME NOTES:

* Claude Julien coached in his 700th NHL game (378-233-10-79).

* Both teams will face Detroit in their next game. The Bruins will host the Red Wings on Monday, and the Blue Jackets will play at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday.

* The meeting was the first of three between the teams this season – the only one in Columbus.

* Boston’s Johnny Boychuk left after blocking a shot in the third period, but he returned.

COLUMBUS GAME NOTES:

* The Blue Jackets recalled C Ryan Craig from the AHL’s Springfield FalconsĀ  before the game but he was a healthy scratch.

* Columbus F Nick Foligno played in his 400th NHL game.

* The Blue Jackets were without LW Matt Calvert (lower body) and lost LW Blake Comeau (lower body) in the second period.
