Martin earns pole position for NASCAR race in Phoenix
Mark Martin will be on the pole for today’s NASCAR race at Phoenix International Raceway for the second straight year after becoming the second-oldest, pole-sitter in Sprint Cup history.
Joining Martin on the front row will be Kasey Kahne.
Daytona 500 winner Jimmie Johnson is third next to Kyle Busch.
A native of Batesville, Arkansas, Martin turned 54 in January, leaving him just a few months short in beating Harry Gant as the oldest driver to earn a Sprint Cup pole. Gant drove in the NASCAR series when it was called the Winston Cup in the 1980′s and 1990′s.
Today’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 is a 312-mile race.
