The Columbus Blue Jackets off-season moves are to strengthen the NHL team but also their minor-league affiliate as well.

Their AHL team, the Springfield Falcons, finished at 35-40-2-3 last season, 12th out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference of the American Hockey League.

The Springfield management want the team to be more competitive. They will hire a coach to tutor the defenseman, which is very much needed.

The signings of forwards Dane Byers, Martin St. Pierre and Cody Bass will help the Falcons.

The 25-year-old Byers scored 15 goals and 31 assists in 75 games with three teams.

St. Pierre, who turns 28 in August, played last season in Austria, Russia and Finland. He has played well in the AHL, scoring 405 points in 367 career games.

Bass, who is 24, scored six goals with nine assists in 58 games for Binghamton in the AHL last season.

The team has also signed AHL MVP Alexandre Giroux, a winger, along with defenseman Aaron Johnson, forward Ryan Russell and goaltender Curtis Sanford.
