The ATP Tour strongly opposes the U.S. Open’s switch to a Monday final in 2013 and they’re not satisfied with the prize money increase for the annual tournament.

The ATP in a statement said: “We strongly believe the U.S. Open should keep a similar schedule to the other Grand Slams, with the men’s semifinals completed by Friday and the final on Sunday.”

The governing body of Men’s tennis told the media that the Tour and players have made it very clear to the U.S. Open Committee that a Monday final will not be supported.

The United States Tennis Association announced on Friday that the women’s final would move to Sunday and the men’s final to Monday in 2013.

( photo)

The ATP Tour is a long and grueling season which consists of 11 months.

The tour’s schedule for 2012 may be shortened by two or three weeks to give the players more rest and help them avoid injuries and that career-ending intangible for most players, burnout.

The top players in the game have been talking for years for the tour to shorten the tournament schedule.

The players feel that they need an off-season of 2 to 2 1/2 months.
