Reds recall Cingrani, designate Jeff Reynolds for assignment

The Cincinnati Reds recalled left-hander Tony Cingrani from their Arizona League affiliate to start on Sunday against the LA Dodgers. To make room on the roster, pitcher Greg Reynolds was designated for assignment.

Cingrani was definitely up to the task as he pitched seven innings, allowing one hit, one walk and struck out 11.

The 28-year-old Reynolds, the former No. 2 overall Draft pick by the Colorado Rockies in 2006, was called up on Tuesday to pitch Game 2 of the doubleheader at San Francisco. In his first big league game since 2011, he allowed five earned runs and eight hits over five innings in a 5-3 loss.

The Pacifica, California native’s future with the Reds will be done if he is claimed by another team.

Because Reynolds is out of options, he will be exposed to waivers over the next 10 days. If he is not claimed or traded, he can return outright to Triple-A Louisville, where he compiled a 10-2 record with a 2.54 ERA.

The Reds would like to keep him in the organization.

There has been a roster move involving the Dayton Dragons and the Bakersfield Blaze in the Cincinnati Reds farm system.

Infielder James Ewing has been promoted from the low Single-A Dayton Dragons of the Midwest League to the advanced Single-A Bakersfield Blaze of the California League.

Infielder Brandon Dailey has been promoted to the Dragons from extended spring training in Goodyear, Arizona.

Ewing made his first appearance in a pro game since July 5, 2009 when he started at shortstop for Dayton on Saturday, April 7, 2012, going 3-for-5. That was his only appearance with the Dragons.

Dailey spent most of the 2011 season with the Goodyear Reds in the Arizona League. He batted .298 with one home run and 27 RBI’s, playing in 43 games. Dailey also played in three games with the Dragons in September after the Arizona League season ended.

The 20-year-old Dailey is a native of Brantford, Ontario.
