70-year-old Hoketsu qualifies for 2012 London Olympics in equestrian events

Japanese equestrian veteran, Hiroshi Hoketsu, who is 70, has qualified for the London Olympics.

The oldest Olympian in sports history was Swedish shooter Oscar Swahn, who won a silver medal at the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium, he was 72.

Hoketsu qualified by winning an international dressage meet last week in France.

Japanese equestrian officials have said that there will be an announcement at a later date on whether Hoketsu will actually compete in the 2012 games, as he’ll turn 71 on March 28.

Hoketsu has competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics, the 1988 Summer games and 2008 Summer games.

Flyers have to rally to beat Antwerp in Belgium, 82-75

The Dayton Flyers were able to undefeated on their European trip due to big plays down the stretch to win 82-75 over St. Jan-Antwerp on Saturday in Antwerp, Belgium.

Dayton improved to 3-0 on the exhibition trip.

The Flyers trailed at halftime, 43-34 but were able to climb back on top in the second half.

St. Jan, one of the most successful teams in Belgium’s pro leagues, answered to regain the lead with two minutes to go in the third quarter.

But UD stopped that comeback attempt to lead by four heading into the final quarter and pushed his advantage up to as much as 13 before ending at the final margin of a seven point margin.

Kevin Dillard led the Flyers for the second time on the trip, with 13 points and seven assists. A trio of seniors also scored in double figures, Josh Parker (12 points), Columbus, Ohio native Chris Johnson (12 points) and Luke Fabrizius (10 points).

Freshman big man Alex Gavrilovic led the team with nine rebounds.
