Anna Nordqvist rallies to win LPGA’s Kia Classic

26-year-old Swedish golf star Anna Nordqvist came back to win the LPGA’s Kia Classic Sunday in Carlsbad, California.

The win was her seventh as a professional golfer.

The Arizona State product was two shots behind the leaders, Cristie Kerr and Lizette Salas entering the final round.

Nordqvist got her game together and closed with a 5-under-par 67 for a one-shot win over Salas.

It was the second straight round that the Sweden native closed with a 5-under 67.

Ohio native Lewis wins LPGA Classic in New Jersey

Toledo, Ohio native Stacy Lewis shot an even-par 71 on Sunday to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic by four strokes over Katherine Hull in Galloway, N.J.

Mika Miyazato and Azahara Munoz were both at 206 after rounds of 68 and 69, respectively.

Lexi Thompson, Anna Nordqvist and Hee-Won Han were all at 207.

The 27-year-old Lewis was born in Toledo, Ohio and went to the University of Arkansas. She turned pro in 2008 and has 4 professional wins.

Lewis finished 54 holes at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club at 12-under-par 201. The victory was her third on the LPGA Tour and the second in 2012. She won the Mobile LPGA Classic back in April.

In 2011, Lewis won a major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Matthew wins Ochoa Invitational by 4 strokes

Catriona Matthew of Scotland closed the final round with a 1-under-par 71 to win by strokes in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 5’4 Matthew, who is 42 years old, carded a 12-under-par 276 total. Anna Nordqvist and I.K. Kim tied for second-place.

Matthew has won 4 LPGA tournaments and 4 Ladies European Tour events in her career.

Christie Kerr first American to win 2010 LPGA event

Christie Kerr won her second LPGA State Farm Classic championship on Monday in Springfield, Illinois.

Nothing was going to stop her from winning, her competitors, the weather delays or the fact that she had the flu.

She held off late challenges from Anna Nordqvist and Na Yeon Choi at the rain-delayed tournament, shooting a 3-under-par 69 in the final round at Panther Creek Country Club to secure the first LPGA Tour victory by an American since Michelle Wie won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November 2009.

Kerr, also won the title in 2004, finished at 22-under-par 266, a shot ahead of Nordqvist and Choi.

With her win, Kerr collected $255,000 to move into second on the money list, $60,000 behind Ali Miyazato.

The popular golfer posted rounds of 67-67-63-69.

GOLF NEWS:LPGA tournament in Illinois delayed another day; US wins Curtis Cup

Rain delayed once again, the LPGA State Farm Classic in Springfield, Illinois, forcing tournament officials to move the final round to Monday.

Christie Kerr and Anna Nordqvist  lead at 20 under. Na On Min, Jee Young Lee, Katie Fulcher, Gwladys Nocera and Na Yeon Choi are just three shots back of first place.

CURTIS CUP

The United States beat Great Britain and Ireland 12.5 to 7.5 in the 36th Curtis Cup which took place in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts.

The United States needed only two of eight points in the singles to retain the cup.

The competiton consists of amateur female golfers.
