Knicks win streak reaches 7; Lin dishes out 13 assists vs. Kings

The New York Knicks were supposed to be led by Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.

But instead, they’re being led by the Lin factor and the results are very good.

Jeremy Lin did not have to score a lot of points on Wednesday night in the New York Knicks, 100-85 win over the Sacramento Kings.

The Harvard grad handed out a career-best 13 assists as the Knicks reached the .500 mark and won its seventh straight game.

Lin, a point guard, scored 10 points in a Knicks offense that shot 51 percent from the floor.

Lin scored 136 points in his first five starting assignments, most by any NBA player since the league merged with the ABA in 1976.

Lin is the reigning NBA Eastern Conference player of the week. He played 26 minutes in the game and sat out the end of the third quarter and all of the fourth quarter.

New York is 15-15 on the season.

This is the first time since the end of last season that the Knicks have won seven-in-a-row.

Celebrities at the game included former vice president Al Gore and former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson.

Walsh steps down as Knicks president; will be consultant

70-year-old Donnie Walsh will not return as the New York Knicks president next season. Instead, he’ll become a consultant for the team.

The move surprised everybody in the organization and the media.

Walsh was responsible for turning the Knicks from an also-ran team into playoff contenders this past season. He brought in superstar players Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups to get the Knicks into the playoffs.

With Walsh no longer the team’s president, there is speculation that head coach Mike D’Antoni might not return for the final year of his contract.

New Knicks still can’t beat the Cavs; Davis leads rally in debut

Baron Davis (file photo)

The New York Knicks have to be scratching their heads. They should be able to beat Cleveland, especially in New York.

Wrong!

Baron Davis scored 18 points in his Cavaliers debut, leading an unbelievable rally in the fourth quarter as Cleveland beat the Knicks for the 11th straight time, 119-115, ending their 26-game road losing streak.

J.J. Hickson scored 23 points and Luke Harangody chipped in with 18.

Davis, playing for the first time since being acquired from the LA Clippers last week, helped erase a 12-point Knicks lead by scoring 12 points in the final six minutes, including a three-pointer which gave the Cavs a 116-112 lead with 10.6 seconds to go in the game.

The Cavs are 3-0 against the Knicks this year.

Amare Stoudemire scored 41 points to match a season-high, Carmelo Anthony scored 29.

The Knicks have not beat the Cavaliers since December 19, 2007.

One thing is certain, Cavs can beat the Knicks

J. J. Hickson (file photo)

Even with a rebuilding team, the Cleveland Cavaliers can beat the superstar-loaded Knicks.

J.J. Hickson, one of the Cavs cornerstone pieces to return to the glory days, led the team to a 115-109 win over the New York Knicks in Quicken Loans Arena.

The Cavs have two wins over the playoff-bound Knicks.

Hickson was coming off a dreadful night against Houston, where head coach Byron Scott benched him for the entire fourth quarter, took his frustrations out on the Knicks, with 24 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high five blocks.

Hickson played All-Star Amare Stoudemire tough and aggressive, just as he played LA Clippers star Blake Griffin two weeks before. Amare did score 31 points, with 11 rebounds and five blocks, but Hickson did not let him dominate as he can.

Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points before fouling out. Chauncey Billups scored 20 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 26.

Hickson got lots of help in the scoring column from Antawn Jamison had 28 points and 13 rebounds, Ramon Sessions with 22 points.

The Cavs outrebounded the Knicks 62-42 which led to 26 second-chance points.

NBA All-Star game, run-and-gun, no-defense affair; West wins 148-143

Kobe Bryant (file photo)

As usual, the NBA All-Star Game is all-offense and no-defense and thus a high-scoring affair. But after all, it is for fun and for the fans.

The West won 148-143 over the East at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Kobe Bryant won his record-tying fourth All-Star Game MVP award. In front of his homecourt fans, he scored 37 points and grabbed 14 rebounds outplaying LeBron James’ triple-double of 29 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Bryant was helped out in the scoring column by Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant who scored 34 points.

Amare Stoudemire of the New York Knicks supported James by also scoring 29 points.
