With the graduation of Roy Alexander, Fred Hardgrove, Isaiah Brooks, Allasane Kah, Malik Dime, Kai Turner and Adam McCall, most people felt that Walnut Ridge’s hold on the South Division the past two years would end.

The South Division champion Walnut Ridge comes into the game at 18-0 and winning their second division title in a row. They want revenge after losing to Northland last year in the City title game also on HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE.

The Scots are led by head coach Jason Bates and feature a tall lineup of Kai Turner, Allasane Kah, Malik Dime and Roy Alexander.

Northland Vikings

The Northland Vikings under new coach Sean Taylor continued to roll this season and are 18-1 overall on the season. The only blemish was losing to Huntington Prep of West Virginia.

The Vikings have continued to be the kingpin in the City League North, winning an incredible 87 games in a row dating to February of 2006.

Northland features three division I recruits, Jalen Robinson (Dayton), Devon Scott (Dayton) and Jordan Potts (Greensboro). But they also have Ke’Chaun Lewis, Armani Towns and a solid bench.

The game is sold out at Columbus East High School as all 1,200 seats were gone in just a few hours.

This game should be a high-scoring, slam-dunking affair!

Game report from Sloan Kitteridge

The West Cowboys have been improving as a team in the past month.

But win wins are tough to come by, they probably did not want to play the South Division’s defending champions and the City League’s only undefeated team in the Walnut Ridge Scots.

The Scots rolled to a 121-53 rout at West on Friday evening.

The game was over before the crowd could get comfortable in their seats.

Walnut Ridge, now 14-0, 10-0 in the City South, rolled up a 26-9 first quarter lead; a 61-15 halftime advantage; 85-22 at the end of three and a 36 fourth quarter ended the contest.

The Scots had a nice distribution of scoring with Roy Alexander leading the way with 17, Rob Wheelwright with 14, and Allasane Kah with 13.

The Cowboys drop to 0-16, 0-10 in the South.

Walnut Ridge uses height, defense & athleticism to dump rival Eastmoor Academy

Game report from Mitch Lawrence

There are several aspects of basketball that opponents will see when they play the Walnut Ridge Scots, defense, height and athleticism.

If you can’t overcome those three components, you’re not going to beat the Scots as their arch-rival Eastmoor Academy found out recently.

The Scots are outscoring their opponents by an average score of 71-43 and nobody has scored more than 50. The Scots beat the Warriors, 66-47.

Walnut Ridge, who were the City South Division champions last season, were led by Roy Alexander, with 13 points, Adam McCall scored 11 and Fred Hardgrove added 10.

John Draper led Eastmoor Academy with 14 points, Jalen Crosby had 12, who could not get closer than 15 points of the lead in the second half.

The tone of the game was set early by the lengthy Scots, who threw 6’9 Allasane Kah and 6’7 Kai Turner at a team in their press and half-court defense. The Warriors were¬† just simply overmatched by the Scots at both ends of the floor before at sellout crowd in the Eastmoor gym.

In the first quarter, Walnut Ridge blocked three shots, held Eastmoor to just seven shots and pushed the lead to 16-4 and the rout was on.

The 11-man rotation employed by Scots head coach Jason Bates helped his team move to 7-0 overall, 5-0 in the South Division. Eastmoor, which is a guard-oriented team dropped to 6-2, 3-1.
