39-year-old Alex Rodriguez can still hit the baseball for distance.

The Yankees controversial third baseman moved past Hall of Famer Willie Mays for fourth place on the all-time MLB career home run list, by blasting his 661st Thursday night in a 4-3 win over division-rival Baltimore.

Next on the home run list for Rodriguez is Babe Ruth with 714.

Yankees star Derek Jeter in 2013 debut pulls quadriceps muscle

There is no doubt the the New York Yankees have missed SS Derek Jeter and 3B Alex Rodriguez all season long.

Even without those two key players, the team has stayed in the American League East race which is basically wide-open for anyone to win.

That might be the reason they reinstated the 39-year-old Jeter to the active roster after a short stint in the minors.

The popular Jeter, spent just four games on his rehab assignment and was recalled to play Thursday against the Kansas City Royals.

It was his 2013 debut and the first first game he had played since last October 13 when he fractured his left ankle.

The long-time Yankees captain has another injury setback to deal with this time.

As the New York DH on Thursday, he ran out a ground ball during his third at bat in the fifth inning and will miss more action.

It was reported that Jeter suffered a Grade 1 strain of his right quadriceps muscle.

Jeter made a statement after the injury and is very diasppointed, obviously.

“It’s frustrating. I don’t know what else you want me to say. I worked hard to get to the point of rejoining the team yesterday. It’s not how you draw it up, but hopefully I’ll be back out there soon and help this team win some games.”

There is no timetable for his return to action.

Yankees lose Granderson to injury for 10 weeks; hit by pitch in exhibition game

The New York Yankees knew this past offseason that they would be starting the season without All-Star slugging third baseman Alex Rodriguez due to hip surgery until at least the All-Star break in July.

Today, they know that they’ll be without speedy centerfielder Curtis Granderson for 10 weeks due to an injury suffered in an exhibition game on Sunday.

The 31-year-old Granderson diagnosis is that he’ll be out until May after suffering a broken right forearm.

Granderson, who belted 43 homers last season, was injured when he was hit by a pitch from Toronto’s J.A. Happ in the first inning on Sunday in his first at-bat of spring training, five pitches into the game.

Granderson has been voted one of the friendliest players in the Major Leagues, according to a poll conducted by Sports Illustrated to 290 players.
