Current, former OSU left tackle, dead at 66

Michael Current, who lettered as an offensive lineman at Ohio State in 1965 and 1966, was found dead at an Oregon wildlife refuge after apparently committing suicide. He was 66.

Court records showed that he was facing criminal charges that he sexually abused three children under the age of 14 authorities told the media on Tuesday.

Current played left tackle for Ohio State legendary coach Woody Hayes and was a co-captain his senior year.

He was drafted in the third round of the 1967 AFL/NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. He also played for Tampa Bay and Miami, starting 164 of the 169 games he played and was selected to play in one Pro Bowl.

His 2002 book was titled Rememberin’ Life in the Trenches. He also wrote a crime book about Alaska title Bush Justice.

Ferris State beats Buckeyes again, 3-1; CCHA Playoffs next

The Ferris State Bulldogs clinched a first-round bye in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs with a 3-1 win over Ohio State in Value City Arena.

Kyle Bonis broke a 1-1 tie with 1:58 remaining and Mike Fillinger added an empty-net goal over a minute later.

With the loss, the Buckeyes finish the season in ninth place and a regular season with 15-16-4 overall, 10-14-4-2 in the CCHA.

The Bulldogs finish at 17-14-5, 12-12-4-3.

OSU’s Sergio Somma scored in the third period and finished the regular season with a team-high 19 goals.

The Buckeyes will travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to play Lake Superior State or to Alaska for a best-of-three series to open the CCHA tournament next weekend.

Alaska-Anchorage rallies to beat the Ohio State in men’s hockey

The Ohio State Buckeyes took a 2-0 lead on goals by John Albert in the first period and Alex Lippincott in the second period before Alaska started to rally.

Alaska scored four times in the third period to beat Ohio State 5-2 and split the two-game weekend series in Nationwide Arena.

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings has Alaska at 8-5-3 overall, 5-4-3-2 in the league; Ohio State is 5-7-1 overall, 2-5-1-1 in the conference.
