LeBron James and his partners wreck the plans of teams trying to lure him

compiled from staff and wire reports

Ever since the day the Cleveland Cavaliers season ended on the Boston Celtics home court, I’ve heard several talk show hosts on ESPN, Fox, Inside the NBA and in Columbus sports talk radio, say that LeBron James is going on a tour of  cities around the league to be wined, dined and become best friends with celebrities. They all  talked as if they knew LeBron’s every move.

I’ve talked to several members in the Cleveland, Ohio media and they said it wasn’t going to happen; a free agent tour.

They were right. There will not be a city-to-city tour.

Late Friday afternoon, word came from Akron that LeBron James was not going on a free-agent tour.

Maverick Carter, LeBron’s business manager told several media outlets that James has no plans to go on a recruiting tour like college athletes go on.

Carter said that once free agency begins on July 1, James will meet all teams at neutral sites and not at his home in the Akron area.

It was reported on Wednesday that the New York Knicks were planning a rooftop dinner complete with a chef and several celebrities including Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Al Pacino and Adam Sandler to eat with James and his associates.

James has already had a meeting with Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who traveled to Akron last week with members of the team’s front office. There is a chance that they’ll meet again this week before July 1 hits.

Cleveland can offer James up to $30 million more than any other team on a maximum-length contract.
