Palmer leads Oakland past reeling Chargers

California native Carson Palmer is starting feel right at home with the Oakland Raiders.

Palmer is starting to get into rhythm with his arm and his receivers and threw two touchdown passes and Michael Bush ran wild on the ground 30 times for a season-high 157 yards and one touchdown to help the Raiders over their AFC West rivals, the San Diego Chargers in Thursday night NFL action, 24-17. The loss makes it four in a row for the Chargers.

Palmer, who was 14 of 20 for 299 yards, threw two scoring strikes to Denarius Moore, helped the Raiders to a 5-4 record and a half-game lead over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.

Philip Rivers struggled again at QB for the Chargers, passing 23 of 47 for 274 yards and was sacked six times.

Prior to Thursday night’s game, San Diego had beaten the Raiders 13 straight times.

49ers can’t stop Vincent Jackson; loses to Chargers 34-7

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson had a career-high three touchdown pass receptions, Phillip Rivers surpassed the 4,000 yards passing mark for the the third straight season leading their team to a 34-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers to stay alive in the AFC West race.

The Chargers, now 8-6, pulled to within a half-game behind division leader Kansas City.

Jackson had touchdown catches of 58, 11 and 21 yards with five catches for 112 yards.

Rivers completed 19 of 25 passes for 273 yards, giving him 4,141 yards for the 2010 season. He tied Hall of Fame QB Dan Fouts’ team record set from 1979-81.

San Diego came within 4:26 of having consecutive shutouts for the first time in their 51-year history.

The 49ers fall to 5-9 on the season.
