Mississippi State transfer Hood chooses Duke, not Ohio State

Ohio State’s men’s basketball team lost in its bid for a transfer to add to the 2012 recruiting class earlier this week.

Mississippi State transfer Rodney Hood choose the Duke Blue Devils over the Buckeyes.

Hood was named to the SEC All-Freshman team last season after finishing the season as the Bulldogs third-leading rebounder at 8.4 and scorer at 10.3.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Meridian, Mississippi, is a friend and former AAU teammate of Ohio State sophomore LaQuinton Ross.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: UD recruit Robinson of Northland leads AAU team to title

The All-Ohio Red 17-and-under basketball team won its fourth AAU national title for that age group in five years, beating the Memphis YOMCA, 60-48 in Orlando, Florida, earlier this month.

6-foot-9 inch University of Dayton recruit Jalen Robinson, and Dunbar High School Wolverines standout Deontae “Teddy” Hawkins played big roles coming off the bench during the tournament.

The Dayton Flyers have offered Hawkins a scholarship, according to most recruiting sources.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Northland’s Burke shares player of the year award with Garfield Heights Lewis

This year’s Division I co-players of the year will be battling each other on Friday night in a state semifinal game involving Columbus Northland and Garfield Heights at Value City Arena.

The game will be broadcast live on’s HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE page at 8:30 p.m. brought to you by SWIFT TAX SERVICES.

Trey Burke of Northland who led his team to a second state tournament will be sharing the Associated Press award with Trey Lewis of #1 Garfield Heights.

Burke has only been on the losing end of four games in his high school career, is averaging 23.6 points, 6.8 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 steals for the Columbus City League Champions.

The 6’1 senior point guard who led the Vikings to the 2009 state title, played on the same AAU team with Lewis.
