Josh Judy recalled from Columbus by Indians

 

The Cleveland Indians have strengthend their bullpen by recalling Columbus Clippers closer Josh Judy.

Judy begins his fourth stint with Cleveland this year going 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 3 appearances.

His first recall stint was on May 21 and made his MLB debut on May 22 against Cincinnati before being optioned back to AAA Columbus.

He was back with Cleveland from July 1-6 and August 22-23.

At Columbus, Ohio this year, Judy has a record of 6-2 with 23 saves and a 3.12 ERA (52 innings pitched, 23 runs, 18 earned runs, 25 walks, 60 strikeouts) in 50 appearances.

His 23 saves are tied for 2nd most in the International League and he did not allow a run over his last 9 appearances (7.2 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts) with the Clippers.

He’ll wear #45 for the Indians.

Indians activate Hafner from DL, demote Buck

The Cleveland Indians today (Friday) have activated DH Travis Hafner from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the 25-man roster, ourfielder Travis Buck has been optioned to AAA Columbus.

Hafner was placed on the 15-day DL on May 18 with a strained right oblique after feeling discomfort in hsi right rib cage area during batting practice prior to a game in Chicago.

At the time of his injury, Hafner was hitting .345 with 8 doubles, 5 homers with 22 RBI’s in 32 games.

He appeared in two games on June 14 and June 16 at Akron and 3 for 6 with a double, two runs scored and a walk.

Phelps to Cleveland, Duncan demoted to Columbus, White to 60-day DL

The Cleveland Indians have purchased the contract of infielder Cord Phelps from AAA Columbus.

To make room for Phelps on the 25-man roster, the Indians have demoted infielder/outfielder Shelley Duncan to AAA Columbus.

To get Phelps on the 40-man roster, the Indians have transferred right-handed pitcher Alex White, who is out of action with right middle finger soreness, from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day list.

The 24-year-old Phelps, a switch-hitter, has spent the entire 2011 season with the Columbus Clippers. A spring training invitee to the Major League camp, he was re-assigned to Minor League camp on March 25. To this date, he has hit .299 (63-211) with 31 runs scored, 15 doubles, 2 triples, 7 homers and 40 RBI’s in 55 games. Phelps is very versatile, appearing in 28 games at shortstop, 12 at second base and 1 at third base.

The Stanford, California native was selected in the 3rd round, 107th overall pick by Cleveland in the 2008 June Draft following his junior season at Stanford University.

Duncan has appeared in 29 games with the Indians, batting .222 with 5 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 home runs and 17 RBI’s.
