The Cincinnati Reds have shown everyone in Major League Baseball this year that they are done with rebuilding and are ready to contend again in the National League.
They have made several trades and moved some popular players.
Recently, the team bolstered its bullpen, a team strength in 2018, by bringing back LHP specialist Zach Duke.
Duke had played for the Reds in 2013 and did quite well in limited duty, 0.84 ERA in 10 2/3 innings pitched.
The free-agent acquisition was signed to a one-year, $2 million contract.
To make room for Duke, RHP Jose Lopez was designated for assignment. That means the Reds have a 10 days to either waive, trade or send Lopez to the minors.
The 36-year-old Duke is a 14-year MLB veteran having also played for Pittsburgh, Arizona, Washington, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Chicago White Sox, Minnesota and Seattle.
The 2009 All-Star pitcher with the Pirates, has a won-loss record of 66-90, 4.30 ERA and 836 strikeouts.
