Inconsistent play at home keeping fans away; Jackets lose to Calgary (Friday)

New Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel is starting to see why fans in Columbus are taking a cautious approach to supporting the team.

Columbus lost Friday night to the Calgary Flames 6-2 before a crowd of 10,784 in Nationwide Arena.

The Blue Jackets looked bad against a Calgary team that was playing a rookie goaltender who was making his NHL debut and a team that was playing its third game in four nights.

Rene Bourque (NHL)

Jarome Iginla (NHL)

The only players who showed up to play were Derek MacKenzie, R.J. Umberger and Derek Dorsett. Speaking of Dorsett, he scored a goal and even had a fight with Calgary’s star player Jarome Iginla.

Jan Hejda also scored for the Blue Jackets.

The negatives included Columbus being 0 for 4 on the power play and only had 11 shots on goal after two periods.

Stars for the Flames were plenty. RW Rene Bourque scored three goals and had one assist; RW Jarome Iginla dished out three assists and rookie goaltender Henrik Karlsson befuddled the Jackets all night.
