Nebraska Post-Game Notes

Nebraska at Ohio State, Nov. 3, 2018, Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, Neb.

·         Nebraska dropped to 1-6 all-time against Ohio State, including 0-4 in Columbus.

·         The Huskers gained 450 yards against Ohio State, marking their sixth straight game with at least 450 yards of total offense. The six-game streak ties for the longest such streak in school history (also six-game stretches in 1972, 1982, 1994 and 1995).

·         Nebraska opened the game with a 12-play, 75-yard drive that took 5:04 and gave Nebraska a 7-0 lead. It marked the fifth straight time Nebraska has received the opening kickoff that it drove for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. Nebraska also scored a TD to open a 7-0 advantage against Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota and Bethune-Cookman. Four of the five drives covered 75 yards and all five have been at least 65 yards.

·         Nebraska had three takeaways in the game, leading to 14 Husker points. Nebraska had three takeaways last week against Bethune-Cookman, marking the first time since 2014 that Nebraska has had back-to-back games with three takeaways. In 2014, Nebraska had three or more takeaways in three straight games against Miami, Illinois and Michigan State.

·         Martinez completed 22-of-33 passes for 266 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 72 yards on 20 carries with a pair of touchdowns on the ground. Martinez recorded 338 yards of total offense, accounting for 300 yards of total offense for the fifth time in eight games this season. He is the fourth player in NU history with five 300-yard total offense games in a season, and is just one 300-yard game from the single-season record of six 300-yard total offense games.

·         Martinez rushed for two touchdowns in the game, tying his career-high. Martinez also rushed for two touchdowns against Colorado.

·       Wide receiver Stanley Morgan Jr. caught seven passes for 87 yards. Morgan increased his season receptions total to 51 to become the fourth player in school history with back-to-back 50-catch seasons, joining Johnny Rodgers (1971 & 1972), Kenny Bell (2012 & 2013) and JD Spielman (2017 & 2018).

·         Morgan’s seven receptions gave him 170 career receptions, moving him up two spots to second on the Nebraska career receptions list. In today’s game he passed Jordan Westerkamp (167) and Nate Swift (166) on the list and trails career leader Kenny Bell by just 11 receptions (Bell had 181 career receptions).

·         Morgan’s 87 receiving yards gave him 2,468 career receiving yards, moving him within 11 yards of second place on the Nebraska career receiving yardage list (Johnny Rodgers, 2,479).

·         Running back Devine Ozigbo rushed 20 times for 86 yards and one touchdown in the game. Ozigbo has at least one rushing touchdown in five of the past six games. Ozigbo increased his career rushing total to 1,910 moving him within 90 yards of becoming the 30th 2,000-yard rusher in school history.

·         Wide receiver JD Spielman caught six passes for 61 yards in the game, increasing his season receptions total to 59 good for sixth on the NU season receptions list.

·         Spielman also closed the scoring with a 17-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, his eighth touchdown catch of the season. Spielman’s eight touchdown receptions are tied for seventh on Nebraska’s single-season list.

·         Sophomore JoJo Domann had a second-quarter sack that caused a fumble, recording his first career sack. It marked the second straight week Domann has forced a fumble.  Domann also had a career-high seven tackles in the game, bettering his previous high of two tackles.

·         Cornerback Lamar Jackson had a third-quarter interception to end an Ohio State scoring threat. It marked his second interception of 2018 and second of his career.

·         Senior linebacker Dedrick Young had season-high 10 tackles in the game to increase his career total to 258, moving him into the top 10 on the Nebraska career tackles list and into ninth place.

·         Cornerback Dicaprio Bootle had one pass breakup, giving him 15 this season and moving him into a tie for fourth place on Nebraska’s season PBU list. His 15 breakups are the most by a Husker since the 2005 season, and Bootle is two breakups from DeJuan Groce’s school-record 17 pass breakups in 2000.
