Murray, who is from Great Britain, did not drop a set in the tournament and has Federer’s number, having beaten him eight times in 13 meetings, including the last two. Murray’s win on Sunday was the most one-sided match the two have played to date.

Even with the loss, Roger Federer will move up to become the second-ranked player as a result of reaching the final. He was trying to win the 64th title of his career, which would have tied him with Pete Sampras for fourth place on the all-time list.

With the win, Andy Murray became the fourth player to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals in London, joining Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The World Tour Finals will be played in November.
