Blue Jackets back at it tonight at 7 pm hosting Chicago Blackhawks

The Columbus Blue Jackets, losers 4-1 on Monday night to the Buffalo Sabres at Nationwide Arena, will be get back on the ice tonight, hosting the always-physical Chicago Blackhawks.

Yes, the CBJ are a bit weary, but one thing about the preseason, teams have as many as 45-60 players in camp and you bring in fresh bodies each game.

The Blackhawks on the other hand are not weary at all. The Chicago Blackhawks open the 2018 preseason tonight at Columbus against the Blue Jackets. It marks the first of six preseason games for Chicago … Chicago will play three straight road games and then three straight home games.

The Blackhawks will not be bringing any of their superstar players to Columbus. Those would include Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Brandon Saad, Brent Seabrook and Jonathan Toews. But the fans will see former Blue Jackets player Artem Anisimov. He was very popular and productive during his three seasons in Columbus, 2012-13 to 2014-15. Anisimov will center the Hawks top line tonight.

Tonight’s game officials as assigned by the National Hockey League: Dan O’Halloran #13 (Referee); Beau Halkidis #48 (Referee); Shandor Alphonso #52 (Linesman); Matt MacPherson #83 (Linesman).


TRAINNG CAMP NUMBERS: The Blackhawks will host a total of 57 players as the team opens training camp this year: 30 forwards, 20 defensemen and seven goaltenders … 23 of the players in camp spent time with the Blackhawks last season … 21 of the 57 players in camp spent time with Rockford last season and four of the 57 played with the Indy Fuel last season … 30 of the 57 players in camp were drafted by the Blackhawks.

HEAD COACH: Joel Quenneville is entering his 11th season with the Blackhawks after being named the 37th head coach in franchise history on Oct. 16, 2008 … in 782 regular-season games behind the Blackhawks bench, the team is 446-243-93 … he has a postseason record of 76-52 and led the team to three Stanley Cup championships (2010, 2013 and 2015) … he is the second-winningest coach in NHL history with an all-time record of 884-526-204 … he has an all-time playoff record of 118-97 … prior to joining the Blackhawks, he served as head coach for the Colorado Avalanche (2005-08) and St. Louis Blues (1996-2004) … he played 13 years in the NHL as a defenseman netting 54 goals and 136 assists in 803 career games with the Toronto Maple Leafs (1979-80), Colorado Rockies (1980-82), New Jersey Devils (1982-83), Hartford Whalers (1983-90) and Washington Capitals (1990-91).

LAST SEASON RECAP: The Blackhawks finished the 2017-18 season with a record of 33-39-10 … the Blackhawks missed out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in nine seasons.

UPCOMING MILESTONES: Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith needs just five regular season games for 1,000 career … he will be the fifth player in Blackhawks history to play in 1,000 career games with the franchise … Forward Chris Kunitz needs just 34 games for 1,000 career as he opens the regular season with 966 career games … Forward Jonathan Toews enters the season with 292 career goals, needing eight for 300 career … Keith enters the season with 92 career goals, needing eight for 100 career … Defenseman Brent Seabrook enters the season with 95 career goals, needing five for 100.
