#25: Today, the Giants will retire number 25 in honor of Barry Bonds’ historic career with the San Francisco Giants from 1993-2007.

RETIRED UNIFORM NUMBERS: For only the 10th time in the Giants’ 136-year history, the Giants will retire a uniform number…the Giants will join the Yankees (21), Cardinals (12), White Sox (11), Braves (10), Red Sox (10) and Reds (10) as one of seven Major League teams with 10-or-more retired uniform numbers.

BARRY BONDS: Won seven NL MVP awards, eight Gold Glove awards and received 14 All-Star selections during his storied 22-year Major League career with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1986-92) and San Francisco Giants (1993-2007)…he was a two-time winner of the National League batting title and the lone member of MLB’s 500 homer-500 steal club…he holds Major League Baseball’s all-time records for home runs (762) and walks (2,558).

This Date in Giants History: August 11, 2001 At Wrigley Field, Barry Bonds inched his way closer to the history books with his 50th homer of the year giving the Giants a 9-4 win.
