Dayton Dragons (13-16, 44-53) at Beloit Snappers (19-8, 51-45)

RH Adrian Rodriguez (4-5, 7.63) vs. RH Wyatt Marks (4-6, 3.58)

Today’s Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Beloit Snappers (affiliate of the Oakland Athletics) in the second game of a three-game series.  This is game 11 of 12 straight games vs. West Division opponents for the Dragons.

Last GameSaturday: Beloit 5, Dayton 0.  The Dragons were shutout on just five hits as they advanced only two runners past first base in the game.  All five Beloit runs came in the sixth inning.  Dayton had only two at-bats with runners in scoring position in the game, going 0 for 2.  Lorenzo Cedrola and Hendrik Clementina each had two hits for Dayton.

Playoff Chase:  The Dragons must finish in the top two among eligible teams in the East Division in the Second Half (six teams competing; Bowling Green and Lansing ineligible).  The Dragons are currently one game out of the wildcard slot (Fort Wayne and Lake County are tied for the wildcard lead).

2018 Team Notes

  • The Dragons were shutout in games Thursday and Saturday, sandwiched around a game on Friday at Wisconsin when they scored 12 runs on 18 hits.
  • The Dragons are 1 for 18 with runners in scoring position in their three losses on the current road trip, and 7 for 18 in their lone win.
  • The Dragons 3.49 ERA in the month of July is considerably better than the MWL average for the full season (3.87), but in an indication that July has been a good month for pitchers throughout the league, the Dragons July ERA ranks ninth among the 16 MWL teams.
  • The Dragons have allowed three runs or less in 15 of their 29 second half games.  Their second half ERA is 3.80 (5.31 in the first half).
  • The Dragons have committed just 27 errors in their last 40 games (including six in one game on July 12, but only five in eight games since).

2018 Individual Notes

  • Packy Naughton over his last five starts:  32 IP, 25 H, 6 R, 5 BB, 23 SO, 1.69 ERA.  Four of the six runs came in one inning (6th on July 21st).
  • Hunter Greene over his last 10 starts:  49.1 IP, 36 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 12 BB, 59 SO, 2.74 ERA.  Greene has made 17 starts. His ERA in his first seven starts was 10.06.  Greene was selected as the Cincinnati Reds Minor League Co-Pitcher of the Month for June.
