Beloit, Wisc.—Beloit starting pitcher Jared Poche and reliever Josh Reagan combined on a five-hit shutout as the Snappers topped the Dayton Dragons 5-0 on Saturday night.  The game was the start of a three-game series that will continue through Monday afternoon.

The Snappers scored all five runs in the sixth inning, collecting five hits in the frame.  Meanwhile, the Dragons could not mount many threats at the plate.  They advanced only two runners past first base in the game and had just two at-bats with men in scoring position, going 0 for 2.

Dragons starting pitcher Packy Naughton (5-9) pitched scoreless baseball over his first five innings, but allowed the first four batters to reach in the sixth and was lifted from the game.  Over five innings, he allowed eight hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts.

Offensively, Lorenzo Cedrola and Hendrik Clementina each had two hits for the Dragons while Jeter Downs had one.  All five hits were singles.

The Dragons best chance to score came in the second inning when Downs singled, went to second on Clementina’s ground out, and stole third.  Mark Kolozsvary walked, setting up a first-and-third, one-out situation.  But Leandro Santana grounded into a double play to end the threat.

The Dragons fell to 13-16 in the second half.  They are one game behind Fort Wayne and Lake County for the wildcard lead in the Midwest League East Division Second Half playoff chase.  Beloit improved to 19-8 in the second half.  They have won 14 of their last 16 games.
