Dayton Dragons (12-15, 43-52) at Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (12-14, 43-52)

Today’s Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) in the last game of a three-game series.  Current Series to Date:  Wisconsin 2, Dayton 0.

Recent Performances:  The Dragons have lost three straight after winning the previous three.  Wisconsin has won five of their last six games.

Last GameThursday: Wisconsin 1, Dayton 0 (10 innings).  The Timber Rattlers scored the only run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Payton Henry with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning.  Dragons pitcher Patrick McGuff and Wendolyn Bautista combined to allow only three runners as far as second base over the first nine innings, but the Dragons went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position.  In the top of the 10th, the Dragons had a runner at third with no outs but could not bring him in.  Andy Sugilio (3 hits, double) and Mark Kolozsvary (2 hits, double) combined to make up the Dragons five-hit total.

Playoff Chase:  The Dragons must finish in the top two among eligible teams in the East Division in the Second Half (six teams competing; Bowling Green and Lansing ineligible).  The Dragons are currently tied for the #3 position in the playoff chase, one game out of the wildcard slot.  Five of the six competing teams are within two games in the second half standings, and four are within one game.

2018 Team Notes

  • The Dragons 3.35 ERA in the month of July is considerably better than the MWL average for the full season (3.88), but in an indication that July has been a good month for pitchers throughout the league, the Dragons July ERA ranks eighth among the 16 MWL teams.
  • The Dragons have allowed three runs or less in 15 of their 27 second half games.  Their second half ERA is 3.73 (5.31 in the first half).
  • The Dragons are batting just .231 in July, ranking 14th in the league.  They are tied for last (with Lansing) in home runs in July with five.  Their record in July is 8-9.
  • The Dragons have committed just 25 errors in their last 38 games (including six in one game on July 12, but only three in six games since).
