Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman has been voted the Budweiser Presents American League Player of the Month for June.

Bregman posted a slash line of .306/.372/.713 with 24 runs scored, 33 hits, nine doubles, a triple, 11 home runs, 30 RBI and one stolen base over 26 games played to claim his first career AL Player of the Month Award. Among qualified AL hitters, the right-handed slugger finished the month first in extra-base hits (21); tied for first in runs scored, home runs and RBI; second in doubles and slugging percentage; tied for third in triples; and tied for fourth in hits. This is Houston’s first Player of the Month Award since Alex’s All-Star teammate Jose Altuve in July of his AL MVP-winning 2017 season.

Bregman began June in grand fashion, recording a 10-game hitting streak to begin his award-winning month. During his hot start at the plate, Bregman totaled nine runs scored, 12 hits, two doubles, a triple, three round-trippers and 10 RBI to lead the Astros to a 7-3 record. Over the course of his productive month, the 24-year-old notched a hit in all but three of 26 games played, including seven multi-hit efforts. In a tilt on June 18th against the Tampa Bay Rays, Alex clubbed the two-run walk-off double to lead Houston to a 5-4 victory, capturing the Astros’ 12th consecutive win. On June 26th against the Toronto Blue Jays at Minute Maid Park, the Albuquerque, New Mexico native went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, three doubles, a homer and two RBI. Bregman became the first player in franchise history to post such a line, and the 35th in AL history. In his following outing, the LSU product batted 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, two doubles and his third homer in as many days. The roundtripper was his first career walk-off home run, helping Houston finish off a comeback in which they trailed 5-0 earlier in the contest. Alex became the first player in team history to log multiple doubles, a homer and two RBI in consecutive games. Bregman finished his impressive month at the plate by clubbing a home run in five of the final six contests of the month. The 2018 All-Star hopeful joined Richard Hidalgo (September 2000) as the only players in Club history to register at least 21 extra-base hits and 30 RBI in a single calendar month. Led largely by their versatile infielder, Houston compiled an 11-game winning streak from June 6th-18th, and enter play today leading the AL West with a 55-31 (.640) record on the season.

Others receiving votes for AL Player of the Month included Altuve (.354, 34 H, 7 2B, 6 SB); All-Star designated hitter/outfielder Nelson Cruz (.326, 20 R, 11 HR, 24 RBI) of the Seattle Mariners; All-Star outfielder/designated hitter J.D. Martinez (.347, 22 R, 7 HR, 20 RBI) of the Boston Red Sox; and All-Star outfielder Mike Trout (.352, 19 R, 9 XBH, 24 RBI) of the Los Angeles Angels.

The Budweiser Presents American League Player of the Month, Alex Bregman, will receive a specially designed trophy, suitably engraved, for the accomplishments.
