Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has been named the National League Player of the Week presented by W.B. Mason for the period ending June 24th.

Outfielder Odúbel Herrera (.444, 8 R, 4 HR, 9 RBI) of the Philadelphia Phillies also posted a strong week. On Friday night against the Washington Nationals, the Venezuelan native logged four hits and four runs scored, as well as his fifth home run in as many days. Herrera became just the sixth player in franchise history to homer in five consecutive contests, joining his teammate Rhys Hoskins (2017), Chase Utley (2008), Bobby Abreu (2005), Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt (1979) and Dick Allen (1969). The performance concluded a stretch of eight games in which the slugging outfielder recorded six home runs, 17 hits, 11 runs scored and 10 RBI. Other noteworthy performances last week included third baseman Anthony Rendon (.444, 7 R, 4 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI) of the Nationals, All-Star outfielder José Bautista (.462, 6 R, 4 XBH, 7 RBI) of the New York Mets and All-Star backstop Yadier Molina (.333, 7 R, 5 HR, 7 RBI) of the St. Louis Cardinals.

In recognition of his National League Player of the Week Award, Nolan Arenado will be awarded a watch courtesy of Rockwell.

Arenado posted a slash line of .379/.419/.966 with seven runs scored, 11 hits, two doubles, five home runs and 13 RBI over seven games played to claim his fifth career NL Player of the Week Award, last winning for the period ending July 23, 2017. Among his NL counterparts, Nolan finished the week first in RBI and total bases (28); tied for first in home runs and extra-base hits (7); tied for second in runs scored; tied for third in hits; and sixth in slugging percentage. This is Colorado’s first weekly award of 2018, and the first since Arenado’s previous weekly honor last season.

In Friday night’s home tilt against the Miami Marlins at Coors Field, Arenado batted 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Rockies to an 11-3 victory. The productive performance marked the fourth consecutive game in which the slugging third baseman logged at least two hits and a home run, becoming the first to accomplish the feat since his teammate Carlos Gonzalez (May 28-31, 2016). The three-time NL All-Star, who currently paces the fan vote at third base for the 2018 Midsummer Classic, shares the franchise record with Larry Walker (June 18-23, 1999), logging a streak of five such games from September 1-4, 2015. In addition, Arenado’s streak of four games with a round-tripper is tied for fourth-longest in Rockies history, trailing his own franchise record of six games (September 1-5, 2015) and streaks of five games by Walker (June 18-23, 1999) and Dante Bichette (August 1-5, 1995). Led by their three-time Silver Slugger Award winner, Colorado won each of their four games during Nolan’s hot stretch at the plate.
