PRESS RELEASE WRITTEN BY Julie Young, NHL PUBLIC RELATIONS; COURTESY NHLmedia.com

LAS VEGAS (June 19, 2018) – Dominant from start to finish, European Champion Erik “Eki” Tammenpää completed his undefeated run with a two-game sweep of the Final to win the 2018 NHL Gaming World Championship™ tonight at Esports Arena Las Vegas.

After pulling out a tense 2-1 victory in Game 1, Eki pulled away from American runner-up David “JrPens91” Roebuck for a 7-3 triumph in Game 2 to capture the inaugural title, accept the championship trophy from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and take home the $50,000 first prize.

The 18-year-old from Espoo, Finland, breezed through the round-robin portion of the World Finals, going 5-0 to qualify for the best-of-three championship round. Eki also went undefeated in the European Regional, signing with Finnish eSports organization HelsinkiREDS shortly after qualifying for the World Finals.
