Cavaliers coaching staff to have new look in 2018-19

With the NBA in its off-season period, there are going to be changes to every team whether you won your division, conference or even the NBA Finals.

Those changes even happens to assistant coaches and support personnel for each team.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, NBA runner-ups for the third time in the past four seasons, have started with their coaching staff.

The changes started when former Wright State University star, Vitaly Potopenko, who worked with the Cavs big men, left to become an assistant under new head coach J.B. Bickerstaff last week.

Now, according to TV, Radio and Talk Show reports, Cleveland will not renew the contracts of assistants Jim Boylan and Phil Handy.

Expected to move up are Dan Geriot, who worked with Handy in player development and former Cavs player Damon Jones.

Jones’ promotion is the key here. Because it is widely known that Jones, who played in Cleveland from 2005-2008, is a very close friend of LeBron James. Sources and rumors have it that James might have wanted him on the coaching staff in order to stay. James’ preference is to stay with the Cavs. He has said all season, his preference this time would be for family and winning.
