Dragons winning streak ends at nine as Fort Wayne brings out the lumber in 8-2 wacking

Prior to Saturday’s game at Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Dayton Dragons had been cruising along with timely hitting, great pitching and defense in winning nine games in a row in the always tough Class A Midwest League. They had not lost a game since April 6.

The home team TinCaps brought out the lumber scoring 8 runs and smashing out 13 hits in an 8-2 rout of the Dragons.

The nine-game winning streak was the Dragons longest since 2007 and tied for third longest in Dayton franchise history.

Fort Wayne, now 5-11 on the young season, scored early and never looked back. They took a 3-0 lead in the first and added four runs in the sixth inning.

The loss drops the Dragons to 9-4. They are now in second place, one game behind the West Michigan Whitecaps in the Midwest League East Division.

Even in defeat, Dayton still had nine hits with Hendrik Clementina, Narcisco Crook, Jeter Downs and Montrell Marshall each contributing two hits apiece. Clementina, the best hitter on the team, raised his average to .483 with those two hits.

Winning pitcher was TinCaps starter Osvaldo Hernandez, he’s 1-2. Allowed 1 run, 5 hits in 5 innings.

Losing pitcher was Dragons starter Tyler Mondile, who is 0-2. Allowed a first inning, three-run homer to Tirso Ornelas, 6 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.
