ATHLETIC TRAINER’S TABLE » OF BRADLEY ZIMMER has been scratched from today’s game due to mild left groin tightness. » INF JOSÉ RAMÍREZ (right ankle contusion) will return to the lineup this afternoon and is scheduled to play third base against the Giants. » OF MICHAEL BRANTLEY (Oct. 18 right ankle surgery) is scheduled to start in left field for Cleveland on Wednesday vs. Kansas City for his first Cactus League action. » OF BRANDON GUYER (Oct. 11 extensor tendon surgery) went 3-for-3 in a Minor League game Saturday and will participate in a Triple-A game today. » RHP DANNY SALAZAR (right shoulder inflammation) remains a few weeks behind in his throwing program; he is participating in weighted ball work and throwing from 130 feet, as he progresses towards throwing off a mound.

YESTERDAY’S RECAP AT CHICAGO-NL » The split-squad Indians scored all of their runs in the first five innings and cruised to an 11-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs in Las Vegas. » C ERIC HAASE provided the afternoon’s exclamation point by clubbing an opposite-field grand slam in the top of the 3rd inning…marked Haase’s third homer of the spring and brought his RBI total to 10. » INF YANDY DÍAZ was 3-for-3 with an RBI on the day to raise his spring average to .412, while INF DREW MAGGI was 2-for-4 with a triple. » RHP STEPHEN FIFE started and earned the win for the Tribe, allowing two runs on four hits over 4.0 innings with six strikeouts…RHP CARLOS TORRES, RHP PRESTON CLAIBORNE and RHP NEIL RAMIREZ each threw 1.0 hitless inning of relief.

YESTERDAY’S RECAP AT SEATTLE » The rest of the Tribe combined for 17 hits in a 16-3 rout of Seattle at Peoria. » C YAN GOMES spearheaded the Cleveland offense, going 2-for-4 with five RBI…Gomes matched Haase in the 3rd inning with a grand slam of his own, his second on the spring and the Tribe’s seventh in Cactus League play. » INF ERIK GONZÁLEZ and OF TYLER NAQUIN both went 3-for-4 on the afternoon, while INF YONDER ALONSO belted his third home run of the spring, a solo shot in the 3rd inning. » RHP MIKE CLEVINGER returned to the mound and earned the win, allowing three runs on just two hits…Clevinger struck out nine batters, the most by any Tribe pitcher this spring…the Cleveland bullpen combined to throw 4.2 scoreless frames, led by 2.0 shutout innings by RHP NICK GOODY.

CATCHING FIRE » Tribe catchers have put together a torrid Cactus League campaign, as the four backstops on the 40-man roster have posted a collective .350 (35-100) batting average with 11 homers and 38 RBI. » C YAN GOMES is batting .323 (10-31) with three homers and 12 RBI (T1st on team), including a pair of grand slams…Gomes’ 12 RBI lead all MLB catchers this spring…C ROBERTO PÉREZ and C ERIC HAASE have also hit three homers and boast one grand slam each. » The Indians have hit seven grand slams overall this spring, four of which have come from Tribe catchers…Cleveland’s seven grand slams are the most by any team since MLB.com began digitally recording spring training stats in 2006.

ROSTER MOVES » The Indians announced a series of roster-reducing moves this morning…the club optioned C ERIC HAASE, INF YANDY DÍAZ and INF ERIC STAMETS to Triple-A Columbus, while they released OF MELVIN UPTON JR. and C RYAN HANIGAN…six non-roster invitees (Barnes, Claiborne, Fife, Hill, N. Ramirez, Shaffer) were re-assigned to Minor League camp. » The Indians’ Major League camp now stands at 39 players.

TRIBE ON TOP » INF GIOVANNY URSHELA leads all Major Leaguers with 20 spring hits…his .488 (20-41) batting average is also first in MLB (min. 35 at-bats)…Urshela also leads the club in doubles (5). » With his grand slam yesterday, C YAN GOMES is now tied with INF JASON KIPNIS for the team lead with 12 RBI…Kipnis remains T1st in MLB with six home runs this spring, which is also tied for the most by a Tribe batter since returning to Arizona in 2009 (Gomes, 2016 & Shelley Duncan, 2012)…Kipnis is also hitting .474 (18-38) in 14 games, which ranks 2nd in MLB (min. 35 at-bats). » RHP TREVOR BAUER ranks second in MLB and the Cactus League with 25 spring strikeouts, just two behind SF’s Madison Bumgarner…Bauer is also 3rd with 18.1 innings pitched…As a team, the Tribe pitching staff leads MLB with 251 strikeouts and ranks 4th in the Cactus League with a 4.73 team ERA. » The Tribe leads MLB in runs (181), home runs (48), RBI (176), hits (274) and strikeouts (260), while they rank near the top in several categories, including batting average (.283, 5th), OBP (.355, 4th), SLG (.504, 4th) and OPS (.859, 3rd).
