Blue Jackets recall Dalpe and Murray from Cleveland Monsters

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  February 19, 2018

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS PLACE D DEAN KUKAN ON INJURED RESERVE

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Dean Kukan on injured reserve and have recalled forward Zac Dalpe and defenseman Ryan Murray (conditioning assignment) from the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.  Kukan will miss at least one week due to an upper body injury suffered vs. Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Murray, 24, who missed 34 Blue Jackets games with an upper body injury suffered on November 27 at Montreal, recorded a goal on two shots for Cleveland at Chicago on Sunday.  He has registered a goal and four assists for five points with four penalty minutes and a +7 plus/minus rating in 24 games with Columbus this season.  The Blue Jackets’ first round selection, second overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft, the native of Regina, Saskatchewan has collected 12-53-65 with 86 penalty minutes and a +5 plus/minus rating in 244 career NHL games with the team.

Dalpe, 28, made his Blue Jackets debut on Oct. 6 vs. the New York Islanders and has recorded 13 penalty minutes in 10 games this season.  He has also notched 9-14-23 with 28 penalty minutes in 28 games with Cleveland.  He has posted 12-12-24 and 36 penalty minutes in 138 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes since making his NHL debut in 2010-11.  The Paris, Ontario native has added 106-107-213, 126 penalty minutes and is +5 in 298 career AHL games with the Monsters, Iowa Wild, Rochester Americans, Utica Comets, Charlotte Checkers and Albany River Rats.  Claimed off waivers by Columbus from Minnesota on Feb. 27, 2017, Dalpe was originally Carolina’s second round pick, 45th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft.

Kukan, 24, has collected four assists and two penalty minutes with a +3 plus/minus rating in 10 games with Columbus this season to raise his career NHL totals to 0-4-4, two penalty minutes and +12, including eight games during the 2015-16 season.   He has registered 1-14-15 and 20 penalty minutes in 32 games with the Monsters this season and was selected to play in his first AHL All-Star Classic, but missed the game on recall to the Blue Jackets.  A native of Volketswil, Switzerland, he was signed by the Blue Jackets as a free agent in June 2015.  He has tallied 8-49-57 and 71 penalty minutes in 137 career AHL games with the Monsters and helped the club capture the 2016 Calder Cup championship.

The Blue Jackets return to action Tuesday when they visit the New Jersey Devils.  Game time from Prudential Center is 7 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m.  All Blue Jackets games televised on FOX Sports Ohio will also be streamed live via FOX Sports GO.  The game may also be heard on the Eldorado Scioto Downs Blue Jackets Radio Network, including CD102.5 FM in Columbus and online at BlueJackets.com.
