Wright State Raiders getting ready to host final games of season: Tonight’s NKU game a battle for 1st place in Horizon League

 

As the season end draws near, the Wright State men’s basketball team will host its final home games as Northern Kentucky comes to town Friday at 9 pm followed by Cleveland State Monday at 7:30 pm.  Friday will be shown live on ESPNU while Monday’s game will be on ESPN3.  Both games can be heard on 106.5 FM or the iHeart app with Chris Collins and Jim Brown.

The Raiders, 19-8 and 11-3, sit in second place of the Horizon League race while the Norse, 19-7 and 12-2, are in first place.  Wright State won the earlier game at NKU 84-81 as four Raiders scored in double figures, led by senior Grant Benzinger with 31 points and seven rebounds and freshman Loudon Love with 17 points and 10 rebounds.  WSU shot 56% from the field.

The Raiders will host Cleveland State Monday for Senior Night.  The Vikings, 6-20 and 3-10, defeated the Raiders at home a couple weeks ago 77-74.  Benzinger and Love each had 20 points in the game as Love grabbed 12 boards.

WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS

  • Benzinger leads the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game.
  • Love leads the league and the team with 9.9 rebounds a game.
  • He was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the sixth time last week.

NORTHERN KENTUCKY NORSE

  • NKU leads the league in scoring (79.1 points per game) and tied for the lead with WSU in defense (65.7 points allowed per game).
  • Drew McDonald leads NKU and ranks fifth in scoring at 16.7 points per contest.
  • He is second in rebounding behind Love at 9.2 rebounds per game.
  • Carson Williams leads the league in field goal percentage at 61.5%.
  • WSU leads the overall series 22-10.

CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS

  • With a game at home against Oakland Friday night, the Vikings recently won at UIC 86-78.
  • CSU ranks last in offense (68.0 points) and seventh in defense (75.0 points).
  • Kenny Carpenter leads Cleveland State in scoring at 12.7 points per game and rebounding at 5.2 per game.
  • Wright State has faced Cleveland State more than any other school and lead the series 35-34.
