Designate Jacob May for assignment

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Miguel González on a one-year, $4.75-million contract and designated outfielder Jacob May for assignment.

González, 33, combined to go 8-13 with a 4.62 ERA (80 ER/156.0 IP) and 100 strikeouts over 27 starts last season between the White Sox and Texas. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound González was 7-10 with a 4.31 ERA (64 ER/133.2 IP) and 85 strikeouts over 22 starts with the Sox, including a 2-0 mark with a 1.85 ERA (7 ER/34.0 IP) over his final five outings. He was traded to the Rangers on August 31 in exchange for infielder Ti’quan Forbes.

“Bringing Miggy back not only strengthens the options for our pitching staff but also returns another quality individual to our clubhouse,” said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager.

González, a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, has gone 52-54 with a 3.95 ERA (382 ER/871.1 IP) and 612 strikeouts in 152 games (145 starts) over six major-league seasons with Baltimore (2012-15), the White Sox (2016-17) and Texas (2017).

He has gone 12-18 with a 4.02 ERA (120 ER/268.2 IP) and 180 strikeouts over 46 appearances (45 starts) in his two seasons with the Sox.

May, 25, spent most of the 2017 season at Class AAA Charlotte, hitting .248 (103-415) with 10 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 27 RBI and 54 runs scored over 110 games. He made the White Sox Opening Day roster, going 2-36 (.056) over 15 games before being optioned to Charlotte on May 1. May originally was selected by the Sox in the third round of the 2013 draft.

The White Sox 40-man roster remains 40.
