Dayton Flyers Volleyball ready for A-10 action at St. Louis Friday night

DAYTON – The University of Dayton volleyball team is set to open Atlantic 10 Conference play at Saint Louis Friday night. First serve is set for 8 p.m. ET at SLU’s Chaifetz Pavillion.

About Dayton
Dayton (8-6) has its four-match straight-set winning streak snapped this past weekend after dropping games to Western Kentucky and Ohio State at the Buckeye Invitational. Junior Lauren Bruns was named the Atlantic 10′s Player of the Week after averaging 4.69 kills/set in a 2-2 week for the Flyers and she leads the team with 3.75 kills/set (2nd A-10) on the season. Senior Amber Erhahon leads the conference with a .429 hitting percentage (13th NCAA) and is also the team’s blocks leader with 1.15 blocks/set (4th A-10).

Scouting Saint Louis
Saint Louis (3-10) has won three of its last four matches heading into conference action after starting the season with a nine-game losing streak. This past weekend, SLU went 2-1 at its own Billiken Invitational, taking down Little Rock and Louisiana Tech. Saint Louis is led by Maya Taylor with 3.24 kills/set (7th A-10) while Sien Gallop serves up 0.80 aces/set (2nd A-10). Mackenzie Long is the team’s leading passer with 3.35 digs/set (9th A-10).

Series Stuff
Dayton and Saint Louis have previously met 48 times with the Flyers holding a 32-16 advantage in a series that dates back to 1978. UD has won nine consecutive and 17 of the last 18 meetings between the two including a 3-2 win in the finals of the 2016 A-10 Championship hosted by SLU in St. Louis.

RPI Rankings
In the final NCAA Rating Percentage Index (RPI) of 2016 posted Monday, Nov. 28, Dayton came in at 33 according to Saint Louis was ranked 81 at the end of last season. 2017′s first RPI ranking will be released by the NCAA on Oct. 2.

• Tim Horsmon is in his ninth season overall, and fourth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2017. His record at Dayton is 223-63 and his career win-loss mark sits at 399-227 in 19 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is the program’s second-winningest coach behind only R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last eight seasons (2009-2016), the Flyers have recorded a 106-9 (.923) mark in Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012 and a 15-0 record in 2010. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2014, 2011 and 2009.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 13 times (2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record 11 times (2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003) and made their 12th NCAA appearance in program history in 2016.
• The Flyers finished the 2016 regular season with a 28-1 overall record and a 14-0 Atlantic 10 mark, finishing in first place in regular-season league play. 2016 was the program’s 38th winning season.

Last Time Out
In a neutral-site match hosted by then 25th-ranked Ohio State at Capital Center in Bexley, Ohio, Dayton was upended by OSU, 3-0. Junior Lauren Brunsled all attackers with 15 kills and senior Amber Erhahon chipped in 10 kills in the finalé of the OSU Buckeye Invitational. For her play over the weekend, Bruns was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Bruns A-10 Player of the Week
Junior Lauren Bruns was honored as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 18. Bruns led the Flyers averaging 4.69 kills per set over the week. She recorded a career-high 22 kills while hitting .600 on Friday in a 3-0 win over Northern Illinois. The outside hitter from Versailles, Ohio, tallied 14 kills against Western Kentucky and followed that with 15 kills against No. 25 Ohio State on Saturday. For the week, Bruns had an attack percentage of .358 and scored 4.92 points per set for UD.
