Midwest League: River Bandits handle Beloit Snappers, 4-1

TWO TO GO! BANDITS NEAR CLINCH WITH WIN
Magic number is two

BELOIT, Wisc. — The Quad Cities River Bandits dropped their magic number to two with a 4-1 over the Beloit Snappers in the series opener at Pohlman Field. Salvador Montano allowed two hits over 3.1 scoreless innings of relief while the Bandits broke a tie in the seventh inning for their third straight win. The Peoria Chiefs also lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday, putting the Bandits magic number to clinch the division at four with 12 remaining in the regular season.

A passed ball allowed Josh Rojas to score in the seventh to break the tie and give the River Bandits (38-20, 75-51) their first lead of the game. Wander Franco then singled home another run before Abraham Toro homered for the second straight day to add to the lead in the eighth. Quad Cities tied the game in the fourth inning on a Rojas single that brought Troy Sieber home from second. Beloit (27-30, 59-66) scored the game’s first run on an RBI single by Jesus Lopez in the second.

Montanto (7-3) kept the game tied in the sixth, entering the game with two outs and the bases loaded and getting a strikeout to strand the inherited runners. Montano would strike out seven over 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two weak singles without walking a batter. Carlos Sanabria went 5.2 innings in his start for the Bandits, allowing one run on six hits while striking out eight and walking two. Sam Sheehan (3-2) allowed three runs in 1.2 innings of relief to take the loss for Beloit.

Since Beloit losses count towards the magic number, the Bandits can clinch a playoff spot Wednesday with a win over the Snappers in the middle game of the three-game series. Ronel Blanco (5-3, 3.63) gets the start for Quad Cities against Zack Erwin (5-4, 2.28) for Beloit. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. CDT and you can join Jake Levy for the live radio call on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app.
