NY Yankees star Aaron Judge and fellow MLB All-Star Game performances led to several accomplishments

Aaron Judge’s performance during the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and the world’s top baseball players competing in the 88th MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard led to a series of notable accomplishments during 2017 All-Star Week in Miami.

Aaron Judge & All-Star Merchandise

Driven by the success of Judge, overall All-Star merchandise sales rose +42% on MLBShop.com versus last year. Highlights on the popularity of Judge’s merchandise include:

Judge had the most popular All-Star batting practice jersey of any All-Star in the past 10 years.  The jersey doubled in sales after he won the Derby.

·  Judge also had the most popular regular uniform jersey during All-Star Week.

·   The most searched term on MLBShop.com this week is Judge-related.

Viewership & Digital Consumption

Even with fan viewing habits changing with new technology, MLB secured increases across both television viewership and digital consumption of All-Star events.

·  Aaron Judge won his first Derby title in impressive fashion resulting in the most-watched Home Run Derby since 2008 and second most-watched Derby since 1999.

·  The T-Mobile Home Run Derby on ESPN (+55%) and the MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard on FOX (+7%) both registered viewership gains, the first time both events had increases in the same year since 2008.

·  The two-day average audience for MLB Network’s MLB Tonight prior to the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and the MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard increased +48% from last year.

· Fans watched more than 44 million live minutes online of the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and MLB All-Star Game presented by MasterCard, combined, via WatchESPN (HRD), FOX Sports Go (ASG), MLB.com (HRD), MLB.TV Premium (ASG) and the MLB.com At Bat app.

·   MLB.com’s owned and operated digital platforms drew more than 100 million video views of All-Star content from Miami, representing an increase more than +40% from 2016.

·  MLB.com At Bat, the leading sports app in total minutes consumed since Opening Day according to comScore, reached 10 million app starts combined for the first time during the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game. This lead to record-setting consumption by baseball fans at a mark +59% higher than the previous high set in 2016.

Latino Audience & Spanish Language Telecasts

The T-Mobile Home Run Derby drew the largest Latino audience ever for the event, tripling last year, with viewers across ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes. In addition, FOX Deportes attracted its second largest All-Star Game audience. With the event hosted in the ethnically diverse city of Miami, MLB recognized National Baseball Hall of Fame members who were born in Latin America prior to the All-Star Game.

Global Distribution

The All-Star Game was televised in more than 195 countries and territories in 14 languages. In Miami, 25 rights holders from 13 countries broadcasted on-site with 11 of the partners from Latin American countries.

PLAY BALL Park

MLB once again provided a fun and interactive space in the backdrop of the Midsummer Classic that encouraged young fans to play various forms of baseball and softball with the second year of PLAY BALL Park. More than 4,200 fans attended the free area at Miami’s Bayfront Park, which included appearances by Indians All-Star Francisco Lindor, Red Sox All-Star Craig Kimbrel, Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar, softball legends Jennie Finch and Lisa Fernandez, 17 of the top Minor League players who competed in the SiriusXM All-Stars Future Game, and members of USA Baseball and Softball.

All-Star Rosters

The All-Star rosters featured a group of talented young and diverse Major Leaguers.

· The 2017 All-Star rosters featured 33 players (46.5%) age 27 or younger, including rookie sluggers Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger.

· The All-Star rosters featured 23 foreign-born players (32.4%) from eight different countries and territories.

MLB.com Home Run Derby Video Game

The award-winning MLB.com Home Run Derby mobile video game, already on a record-setting pace in 2017 with its featured cover athlete Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins, continued its growth during and after the T-Mobile Home Run Derby national broadcast. In just the past few days, gamers have hit more than four million home runs while playing the video game for more than one million total minutes, all done utilizing the numerous MLB stars featured in the simulated gameplay competition.
