Crew SC looking to get back in the win column hosts arch-rival Toronto FC tonight at 8:00 pm

COLUMBUS — Columbus Crew SC (3-2-1, 10 points) hosts Toronto FC (1-0-4, 7 points) at MAPFRE Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, April 15 in the first of three matches for the Trillium Cup this season. The match kicks-off at 8:00 p.m. ET and is set to be televised regionally on The CW Columbus, Spectrum Sports and BCSN2, with Neil Sika, Dwight Burgess and Marisa Contipelli on the call. Coverage on The CW Columbus begins at 8:00 p.m. ET. Exclusively on Spectrum Sports and BCSN2, “Crew SC Matchday,” the pre-match show, begins at 7:30 p.m. ET, with “Crew SC Post-Match” immediately following the action.Saturday’s match also airs locally on the radio on CD102.5 FM in English, featuring simulcast audio from the television broadcast. La Mega 103.1 FM has the match airing in Spanish, with Juan Valladares behind the microphone. The Spanish radio calls are also set to be streamed in Spanish on the LaMega1 App and via Tunein Radio as WVKO-FM. The club’s official website, ColumbusCrewSC.com, is set to stream the English-language radio broadcast online.

 

Crew SC and Toronto met three times last season while competing for the Trillium Cup, playing to a 0-0 draw at BMO Field on May 21, a 1-1 draw at MAPFRE Stadium on July 13 and a 3-0 win for Toronto FC at BMO Field in their final meeting of 2016 on July 31. Saturday’s match marks the 29th all-time regular-season meeting between the two clubs. The Black & Gold currently hold an all-time record of 12-6-10 against Toronto and have won the Trillium Cup on six of the nine occasions it has been contested.

 

Last Saturday, Crew SC took on the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois in its sixth match of the season. Hector Jimenez made his first regular-season start of the 2017 season, while rookie defender Alex Crognale made his second consecutive start in as many games. The Fire would score the lone goal of the game in the 22nd minute on a strike from Nemanja Nikolic, assisted by Dax McCarty. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen made four stops, tying his MLS career-high for saves in a game.

 

Steffen’s four saves bring his total to 17 on the regular-season and his current Goals Against Average (GAA) to 1.16. Justin Meram made his 160th regular-season appearance for Crew SC, tying Robert Warzycha for seventh place on the club’s all-time regular-season appearances list. Meram also moved up on another club leaderboard, passing Edson Buddle into sixth place on the club’s all-time regular-season shots list with 270.
