|COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS SIGN DEFENSEMAN MARC-ANDRE BERGERON TO ONE-YEAR, TWO-WAY NHL/AHL CONTRACT|
|COLUMBUS, OH – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron to a one-year, two-way NHL/AHL Contract for the rest of the 2016-17 season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Bergeron, 36, has posted 82 goals and 153 assists for 235 points and 214 penalty minutes in 490 career NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild, Anaheim Ducks, New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers from 2002-13. He posted career highs in goals, points, penalty minutes and games played with 15-20-35, 38 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 75 games with the Oilers in 2005-06 and helped the club reach the 2006 Stanley Cup final with 2-1-3 and 14 penalty minutes in 18 playoff contests. The blueliner has notched 7-8-15 and 39 penalty minutes in 57 career NHL playoff games. He most recently recorded 1-8-9 with nine penalty minutes in 25 games split between the Lightning and Hurricanes in 2012-13.
The Trois-Rivieres, Quebec native has posted 3-6-9 with eight penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating in 13 games with the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters this season. He ranks second-T among club defensemen in goals. The 5-9, 198-pound blueliner has tallied 19-65-84 with 171 penalty minutes and +47 plus/minus rating in 162 career AHL games with the Monsters, Norfolk Admirals, Hamilton Bulldogs and Toronto Roadrunners.
Bergeron played for the ZSC Lions in the Swiss’ National League A from 2013-16, posting 18-60-78 with 100 penalty minutes and a +50 plus/minus rating in 135 games. Originally signed by the Oilers as a free agent on July 20, 2001, Bergeron spent four seasons playing junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 1997-01, registering 86-144-230 with 529 penalty minutes and a +21 plus/minus rating in 249 career games with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Shawinigan Cataractes.
