Dayton to host VCU Wednesday night in A-10 showdown for first place

DAYTON HOSTS VCU ON SENIOR NIGHT IN A TOP 50 RPI SHOWDOWN
With an eight-game winning streak and the A-10 regular season championship on the line, the University of Dayton Flyers host the VCU Rams on Senior Night, Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.  On-court Senior Night ceremonies will begin at approximately 7:45 p.m. ET.  In addition, Dayton’s 1967 team that reached the NCAA championship game 50 years ago will be recognized during the first half.
The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network and is available with live streaming audio and stats at DaytonFlyers.com.
Dayton leads the Atlantic 10 with a 14-2 record.  The Flyers, who are also 23-5 overall, lead VCU by one game with two games to play.  UD is led by a trio of double-digit-scoring seniors – Charles Cooke (16.3), Kendall Pollard (13.9) and Scoochie Smith (13.1).  Cooke leads the team in rebounding (5.3) and Smith leads in assists (4.3).
A fourth senior, Kyle Davis, has been spectacular since returning from an ankle injury and moving into a sixth-man role.  In the last nine games ago, Davis has made 13 of 21 two-pointers and 10 of 17 three-pointers with 14 assists and four turnovers.
SUPERIOR SENIORS
  • The senior group of Kyle Davis, Scoochie Smith, Kendall Pollard, Charles Cooke and Jeremiah Bonsu own the program record for most victories in a class with 101.
  • The Class of 2017 has 101 victories in their first 131 games, seven wins ahead of the pace set by the previous record holders, the Class of 2011 (Chris Wright, Devin Searcy, Peter Zesterman and Logan Nourse).
AWESOME IN THE ATLANTIC 10
  • Dayton’s 14-2 record in the A-10 matches the best start in the program’s history.
  • In 2002-03 UD finished conference play at 14-2.
  • The Flyers have won 50 of their last 62 A-10 regular season games.
  • UD is 7-1 against A-10 teams with winning records in conference (George Mason, La Salle, Richmond, St. Bonaventure twice and Rhode Island twice).

  • Dayton has won 11 of its last 12.
  • Since the start of the 2013-14 season, UD is 34-14 in games decided by five points or less.
  • During the eight-game winning streak, Kendall Pollard is averaging 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds while shooting .554 from the field.
  • Charles Cooke has scored in double figures in all but two games he’s played this year.
  • The Flyers have won 20 of their last 23 when Kyle Davis scores in double figures.
  • Davis leads the A-10 in 3-point field goal percentage (.571) in conference play.
  • When Ryan Mikesell shoots 50 percent or better from the floor, UD is 12-1 this season.
  • Scoochie Smith is averaging 5.4 assists the last eight games. He is ranks third in assists (4.6) and fourth in the A-10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1) in league-only games.
  • The Flyers are 29-3 the last three years when Darrell Davis connects on two or more three pointers in a game. UD is 10-0 this year.
  • With Josh Cunningham in the lineup, the Flyers are 7-0, four of those wins on the road.
  • Xeyrius Williams has scored in double figures in four of the last six contests. In his last six appearances, he’s averaging 11.0 points.
  • Dayton is 22-1 this year shooting 40 percent or better from the floor.
  • UD is shooting .491 from the floor in victories this year and .370 in its losses this season.
  • The Flyers are 42-1 when limiting opponents to 60 points or less in the last five seasons and 8-0 this year.
  • UD has won 35 straight games when scoring 80-plus points.
  • Dayton has won 42 of the last 47 games when three or more players score in double figures.
  • UD has hit at least one 3-pointer in 299 straight games.
  • Dayton has rallied from double-digit deficits in three of the last four games.
  • The Flyers have forced 10 or more turnovers all but one game this year.
ABOUT VCU
  • The VCU Rams enter the contest 23-6 overall and one game back for the Flyers in the A-10 standings at 13-3.
  • Justin Tillman leads the way averaging 12.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
