Clippers beat Indianapolis again, 5-2; take over first place in IL West

The past few weeks, the talk has been Columbus at least holding Buffalo for the wild card spot, while keeping pace with the Louisville Bats for the IL West division crown. Now, the chore is holding off Louisville for a division title.

The Clippers received a good start from Paolo Espino and timely hitting from Jared Goedert and Cord Phelps in winning their third straight against the Indianapolis Indians, 5-2.

Coupled with Louisville’s loss to Toledo, the Clippers regained the IL West Division lead by a 1/2 game.

Espino struck out seven in seven innings. Two of the three hits he gave up came in Indy’s two-run third. Espino set down the final 12 batters he faced in order. Jess Todd and Vinnie Pestano shut the door in the final innings, with Pestano earning his 14th save.

The parent Cleveland Indians did call-up Clippers ace Carlos Carrasco, who was scheduled to pitch on Wednesday as all Major League rosters are set to expand.
