MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Columbus Clippers & Dayton Dragons

COLUMBUS CLIPPERS AT TOLEDO MUD HENS

Scott Sizemore’s two-out infield single in the bottom of the 12th inning Wednesday night gave the Toledo Mud Hens a 5-4 win over the Clippers at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo.

With runners on first and second, Sizemore hit a ball past the pitcher’s mound towards center field. Shortstop Josh Rodriguez of the Clippers made a diving stop, but his throw pulled first baseman Jordan Brown off the bag.

Justin Henry rounded third on the throw by Rodriguez to first base and then kept on running toward’s home plate. Clippers catcher Luke Carlin couldn’t handle the throw from Jordan Brown.

Columbus has now lost seven of eight and remains a game and a half behind the Louisville Bats in the IL West Division.

DAYTON DRAGONS AT SOUTH BEND SILVER HAWKS

Victor Estevez reached base four times, drove in three runs in leading the South Bend Silver Hawks to a 7-4 win Wednesday night over the Dayton Dragons in Midwest League action. The loss snaps the four-game winning streak by the Dragons.

The South Bend Silver Hawks are the low Single-A Affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The winning pitcher for South Bend was Adam Worthington. He worked 6 2/3 innings, gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and struck out 3. He evens his record at 5-5.

Daniel Corcino was the losing Dayton Dragons hurler. He is now 1-1 on the season. His pitching totals included 4 1/3 innings pitched, allowed 8 hits, 5 earned runs, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

There were 897 fans in attendance in South Bend, Indiana.
