The short and disappointing 2015 season for Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco has finally come to an end.

No more being used as a DH during Interleague games, no more late-inning pinch-hitting duty or even an experiment as a leftfielder.

The decision has been made to undergo season-ending hip surgery in New York on June 29 to repair a left hip impingement.

Performing the surgery will be Dr. Bryan Kelly who says that it will take four to six months of rehabilitation for the Reds’ starting backstop.

He should be able to resume catching and be ready for the start of the 2016 season.

Mesoraco says that the problem with his hip is that he has bones rubbing together and it effected his range of motion when playing catcher and has caused other problems.

The 27-year-old, who has been with the Reds since 2011, has not caught a game since April 12. He was placed on the DL May 25.

A native of Pennsylvania, Mesoraco ends the season with only 45 at bats in 23 games.

He was a 2014 National League All-Star.
