WASHINGTON – GW men’s basketball wraps up the first month of conference play with a trip to No. 21/19 Dayton on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

JUMPING INTO THE FRAY
First-year Jacoi Hutchinson has come into his own in the last week, averaging 11.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 1.5 spg with back-to-back double-digit efforts. Hutchinson was also rather efficient shooting vs. Richmond and La Salle, connecting on 9-of-15 (60%) overall and 4-of-8 (50%) from beyond the arc.

The Laurel, Md., native has been the team’s top scoring option off the bench, averaging 6.0 ppg in A-10 play and shooting a team-best 46.7% from beyond the arc vs. conference foes.

A GW WIN WOULD…

• Be GW’s first win at UD Arena since Feb. 26, 2005 when Carl Elliott’s 3-pointer at the buzzer beat Dayton, 62-59. GW has lost 10 straight at UD Arena since.

• Mark GW’s first win over a ranked team since defeating #6 Virginia, 73-68, on Nov. 16, 2015.

• Give GW its first road victory over a ranked team since knocking off #1 Massachusetts, 86-76, on Feb. 24, 1996.

• Make GW the first A-10 team to win at Dayton and VCU in the same season since Rhode Island in 2017-18.

A LOOK AT THE FLYERS
Dayton saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday in a battle for first place at Richmond. The Flyers have lost just three games this season, at Richmond, vs. #4 Houston and at Northwestern.

Daron Holmes II, who was on the preseason All-Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team, has lived up to the billing as the conference’s leading scorer at 19.1 ppg. Holmes also leads the conference in free throws, ranks fourth in rebounds and fourth in blocks.

Nate Santos is second on the team with 11.3 ppg while Koby Brea (10.7) and Kobe Elvis (10.0) each average double digits. Brea leads the nation in 3-point percentage at 48.2%.

Dayton is the league’s top defensive unit, allowing just 64.1 ppg, and has not allowed more than 69 points in an A-10 game. UD is also top in the league in field goal percentage (47%, 66th NCAA) and effective field goal percentage (56.1%, 18th NCAA).
