Garza’s no-hit gem at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, left the New York Mets and the San Diego Padres as the only major league teams without a no-hitter.

The Rays are now in second-place in the AL East behind the New York Yankees, a season-high 22 games over .500 and 3 games behind in the division race.

Garza set a team record for fewest batters faced in a complete game, allowing only a second-inning walk to Brennan Boesch, who was erased off the bases by a double play.

Garza, who is 26 years old, had a previous longest bid for a no-hitter was six innings twice, including June 26, 2008 at Florida, when he gave up a homer to Hanley Ramirez leading off the seventh inning and finished with a 1-hitter.

Garza, now 11-5, dominated the Tigers with high fastball after high fastball in a lineup without start players, Brandon Inge, Miguel Cabrera and Magglio Ordonez who are injured.
