Reds setup man Jonathan Broxton undergoes season-ending forearm surgery

Cincinnati Reds right-handed reliever Jonathan Broxton had season-ending surgery on Friday August 23 to repair a torn flexor mass in his right forearm. Team medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek performed the operation.

Broxton’s rehabilitation is expected to take approximately six months. He will be ready for the start of Spring Training in 2014.

Broxton came out of Wednesday’s game when he felt something pull apart in his forearm while pitching in the eighth inning vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In a shortened season covering 34 games, Broxton was 2-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 30 2/3 innings. He’s allowed 27 hits and walked 12. He was on the disbaled list from June 15-Aug. 9 because of a flexor mass strain in his right elbow.
