Wright State ready for HL Tournament after 19-11 regular season

Brad Brownell (WSU)

Since Head Coach Brad Brownell came to Wright State University four years ago, 20 victories have been the norm. The Raiders have won in order, 23, 21 and 20. Their RPI has been a respectable in order, 71, 86 and 97.

Vaughn Duggins (WSU)

Todd Brown (WSU)

This season, 20 victories have been tough to come by considering Vaughn Duggins was suspended at the start of the season and they’ve had several injuries to Cooper Land and  John David Gardner. But the Raiders have always finished strong and won 8 of the last 11 games to finish as the number 2 seed in this week’s Speedway Horizon League Tournament. Wright State is clearly the league’s number two team behind the nationally ranked Butler. The Raiders are probably tired of being annual bridesmaids but that’s  not so bad because all of the teams in the league know year in and year out that Butler and Wright State are the teams to beat.

Wright State ended its season at Cleveland State, 68-63, so their annual 20th win will have to wait until this weekend.

Going into that game against the highly motivated Vikings, the Raiders at 19-11, already qualified as the number 2 team in the Horizon League (12-6) and will play Saturday in Indianapolis at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday
