The Columbus Crew rebounded from its lone loss of the season last Saturday to secure a 2-2 draw with San Jose Wednesday night in a very lively match at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Columbus came out strong and in the fourth minute, right back Jed Zayner’s cross fell at the feet of Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who held off two defenders and put a shot on goal. Joe Cannon pushed the rebound aside, but the ball scooted to Jason Garey in the goal area, who centered the ball to his right to an uncovered Eddie Gaven for the easy tap in.

The Earthquakes would equalize leass than a minute later. San Jose’s Andre Luis came up with the loose ball on the right side and push a pass to midfielder Arturo Alvarez, who hit a low, hard shot that just beat Crew goalkeeper William Hesmer at the near post.

In the 70th minute, the Crew regained the lead when Schelotto’s corner kick found the head of Chad Marshall, who jumped above a crowd of players and headed home his first goal of the season.

In the 79th minute, San Jose would again respond with a tying goal when Bobby Convey’s corner kick found Scott Sealy, who then headed the ball across the goal to Chris Mondolowski, who headed it home for his sixth goal of the season.

The Crew is now 6-1-3 (21 pts) on the season and is still unbeaten on the road (2-0-3).
